About Amy

My story starts in Omaha, Nebraska where I was born and raised. I'm told I had journalistic tendencies early on, always "attacking" my dad while he tried to read the newspaper and then asking for him to read me a story. The oldest of three, my whole family is still back in Omaha. I grew up in a rural part of Omaha near Springfield and went to Platteview High School where I was involved in everything! I graduated and knew I wanted to be a journalist.

I followed this dream to Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska and jumped in with both feet. I produced, reported and anchored our college news show "Response News." Always ambitious, I decided I wanted some real world experience and got my first TV job as a sophomore running the audio board at KHAS-TV in Hastings. But I didn't stop there I became a photographer going all over the area including Kearney and Grand Island hunting down stories and putting them together for the nightly 10 p.m. broadcast. That experience led to a dream internship with DATELINE NBC.

Working for Dateline was the thrill of a lifetime and I learned A LOT! I was assigned the West Coast bureau in Burbank, California. While there I had the chance to participate in several stories becoming an assistant producer on two segments, one of which won an Edward R. Murrow award.

From L.A. it was back to Nebraska, this time in Lincoln, at KOLN-KGIN-TV. I reported nightside and also anchored. After 3 years in Lincoln, I moved to Charleston, South Carolina and joined WCSC LIVE 5 News. I learned to work fast!  WCSC does almost 7 hours of news a day and I found myself reporting live from 4 p.m. all the way up until 11. After a year on the streets I was promoted to weekend anchor. And while hurricanes caused concern for this Nebraska girl...I was always the first to get wet, jumping right into the eye of the storm. My coverage of Hurricane Ophelia won the award for best spot news in the state in 2005.

I loved the beach so much I knew my next job would have to be along the coast and was delighted to get a call to move even further South, this time to the Gulf and Ft. Myers. Working as a morning anchor is a dream come true and I love helping to wake everyone up! I have always had more energy than the Energizer bunny and be the first with the day's breaking news. I also love to just sit down and talk with people and that's what Fox 4 Rising allows me to do!

I enjoy being involved in the community. I am active with Make-A-Wish, the Animal Refuge Center, Gulf Coast Humane Society and many other charities.  When not rising early, I'm active! I love to run, swim, and be outdoors. My other hobbies include photography, reading a good book at the beach, and cooking. I am one mean chef. Deserts are my favorite complementing my big sweet tooth.

What can I say...life is sweet!
