A cheer breaks out as a health care reform bill narrowly passes the House of Representatives. But your elected officials aren't exactly cheering. Both voted no. Congressman Connie Mack sent us this statement today: "The people of Southwest Florida, and indeed the nation, lost today. Congress can and should do better than this terrible bill." And from Congressman Tom Rooney: "The Pelosi plan is a federal government take-over of health care that includes unacceptable cuts to medicare and a trillion dollar price tag that our country simply can't afford." The congressmen, who are both Republican, say they support health care reform, just not what was in the house bill. Since the congressmen represent us here at home, I hit the streets to see what you had to say. It seems, everybody has an opinion on this controversial topic. "They need to approve the bill, definitely," James Darnell told me. "I mean, we need healthcare insurance here. It's one of the most costly things here in America."
"I don't think there's a need to change," said Deiter Szurowski. "I like it the way it is."
"I don't understand how it was so easily passed in every country besides our country," Alex Ifantides told me. "And this is supposed to be the greatest country on the planet."
Different opinions they hope their congressmen will consider when they vote on healthcare again.
