Remember An Inconvenient Truth, the popular movie that came out in 2006, warning people about the dangers of global warming? Well, there's another movie, called Not Evil, Just Wrong, that pushes the opposite message. FGCU sophomore Brandon Wasicsko doesn't really agree with Not Evil, Just Wrong's message, but said watching it is important.
"There's so many different views," he told me. "I think we get caught up a lot of times with left/right nonsense, is how I see it. So looking at every possible opportunity, every different option, is of utmost importance."
So Brandon, and the student club he belongs to, Eagles of Liberty, sent an email to environmental and business classes, inviting them to a screening of the movie.
He got a response from Professor Patrick Greene, that called his invitation, "a fundamentalist right wing set of lies," "political propaganda," and a "violation of the FGCU policy."
"Just the fact that he thought he could intimidate a group of students that were in the minority and expressed views different from his," Brandon told me, bothered him.
But the show still went on. Brandon says around fifty people came to the screening at the student union. Professor Greene wasn't one of them.
Four in your Corner called Professor Greene, but didn't get a call back.
An FGCU spokesperson told us neither Brandon nor Dr. Greene broke any rules. Students can email about whatever political issue they want. The same goes for faculty, as long as they're not endorsing any candidate.
A friend reported the whole thing to www.campusreform.org - a web site that keeps track of what its founders call "leftist abuse."
"Especially, like Florida Gulf Coast University, it's very dogmatic that all students must accept global warming beliefs." Spokesperson Adrienne Loyer told us. "It's almost like a religious doctrine there."
One group's opinion, that FGCU says isn't true.
