2 convicted killers get life in prison

Associated Press - November 7, 2009 3:14 AM ET

DELAND, Fla. (AP) - Two men convicted of first-degree murder for brutally beating and drowning another man in Volusia County will spend the rest of their lives in prison.

A jury recommended life without the possibility of parole for 30-year-old David Marrow and 31-year-old Barry Gallagher on Friday, and the judge followed the recommendation. The men had faced lethal injection after being convicted earlier this week.

Investigators say Marrow and Gallagher stomped and kicked 32-year-old David Sanders for about 45 minutes at an Ormond Beach home in December 2007. While Sanders was unconscious, they wrapped him in a piece of carpet, drove to the Halifax River and held his head under water for about five minutes. Then they threw the body in the river.
