Wounded soldier's mother headed to Ft. Hood

Posted:

It's a flight no mother wants to take.

"Prayers, just everybody keep him in your prayers," asked Roxanne Johnson hustling through Southwest Florida International Airport.

Roxanne Johnson's 21 year old son Justin is stationed at Fort Hood. He played football at Charlotte High a few years ago, now he fights for life in a Texas hospital.  The gunman shot him in the chest, and in the leg.

"I was told he's holding on, he's doing good," said Roxanne at the airport.  Operation Open Arms Chaplain Larry Ager greeted Roxanne at the airport. The local military support group is  paying for her trip to Fort Hood, Friday night Ager came to the airport to pray with Roxanne as she left.

"It's a requirement, it's a necessity, it's not about Operation Open Arms, it's about our soldiers," said the veteran who in his retirement years lives to help fellow soldiers.  An emotional goodbye with family left little time to make it to her gate. Roxanne's overwhelmed, and couldn't even begin to describe what it feels like.

"Nobody wants to know, it's not a good feeling," she said holding back tears.

"She's leaning on her faith with expectancy, and continuing to ask for everyone's prayers."

"She will not be alone for a moment, which is very good," said the Chaplain about how someone will be with Roxanne throughout her whole trip to Fort Hood.  He gave Roxanne a cross pin to keep close, as she travels to be by her son's side.  As of Friday night, Justin remained in an intensive care unit, but Roxanne said he is doing as good as can be expected.
