Wants to know: Plenty of Swine flu vaccines going to inmates

Video Gallery

Four In Your Corner continues to dig for answers.

Why are almost all of the inmates in the Lee County Jail getting the swine flu vaccine ... Even though it's in short supply?

Fox 4 told you about this swine flu shocker Friday...  The Lee County Jail handing out the vaccine even if inmates aren't in a high risk group.

Four in your Corner wants to know...why the jail can't give up some of those doses.

They have one thousand vaccinations, more than enough for any high risk inmates...so why not share?

Dr. Judith Hartner, Lee County Health Department: "It's not just like I can go knock on the door and say give us back a thousand doses or two-hundred doses."

WOMAN: "I'm very outraged by it, very outraged."

Outraged because if you aren't between 6 months and 24 years old...or aren't in another high risk group...you can't get a swine flu shot right now.

But in the jail...you'll get one this week if you're under 50.

MARISA:  "Some people would think that it's unfair that the inmates are getting these vaccines."

CAPT. TOM EBERHARDT: "Well, that might be the case, as far as what we got, that was all up to the Health Department."

MARISA: "Right now since not everyone can get the vaccine, do you think that you should re-allocate some of the vaccine that was sent over to the jail?"

DR. JUDITH HARTNER: "The jail has it, they have a plan to use it, I see any reason to re-allocate it."

Dr. Judith Hartner tells me they don't want the jail vaccines back because they aren't sure it has been stored safely.  "There is a process to make sure that when we get it back, we're getting an effective vaccine."

So for now...the inmates will be lining up for the swine flu vaccinations this week.

The rest of us will be waiting until at least December.
