Finally...action for parents in Collier County.
Speeding cars right next to school kids waiting for their bus. Parents came to us, afraid a child could be killed.
Now, just one day later, the Collier School District is on the case trying to make those kids safer.
Four In Your Corner's Rob Koebel follows up on the story he broke.
Dark skies when the kids get to this bus stop. Cars zip by at 50 or 60 miles an hour.
Jennifer: "I'm scared that one of them is going to get hit...and I am the one standing here watching them and people are flying down the road and what am I supposed to do".
"They go off the side of the road...kids can't stand that close. They have to be able to do something to make these kids a lot safer".
Parents tell us after Fox 4 first taped the kids near the cars, a district official showed up to take a look. Now, that our story has aired, the transportation director tells us they want to help.
"It's very important that the parents work with us so we can make sure everything is safe. We have thousands of bus stops throughout the county. And, of course, the bus is only there for a minute or so - less than a minute."
One parent made this make shift bench to get the kids away from the speeding traffic, but they say the district needs to do more.
"But, as far as a covered pavillion for the kids in the rain or a bike rack or sidewalk that isn't under his authority that is something that needs to come from the county".
The transportation director tells fox 4 the bus stop can't be moved off golden gate blvd...but they'll now work with parents to find other solutions.
Until then...kids know the rules.
"Its pretty close to the street so we have to play around here".
Fox 4 will be back to see if anything changes.
